ICOM Arms & Military publishes an online publication, called The MAGAZINE, twice a year about the work of our members. It includes items of news, information about exhibitions, new acquisitions, reports of congresses as well as short articles.

The magazine is intended for both military historians and museum professionals at all stages of their careers. It is deliberately conceived as a link between the academic community and military museums, collections, and related institutions. Contributions may be submitted in any of ICOM’s three official languages: English, French, or Spanish. Articles may take a variety of forms. These include reviews, presentations or discussions of newly opened exhibitions and collections, reviews of important publications relevant to the museum field, and, occasionally, more conventional articles on military history. The principal focus of the magazine, however, is museum practice and museological questions within the broader context of military history.

Contributions should normally be between 500 and 4,000 words in length; in exceptional cases, manuscripts of up to approximately 5,000 words may be considered. Authors are asked to avoid an excessive use of notes. Where notes are necessary, they should be presented as endnotes rather than footnotes. Manuscripts submitted in English should use British English and should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, preferably the Notes and Bibliography system, as outlined in the Chicago citation guide:

Authors may include up to twelve images in JPG format. Images should be submitted separately from the manuscript, together with a figure list containing captions, source information, and clear details concerning copyright, image rights, or permissions where applicable. Please also include up to five keywords, a short abstract, and brief biographical information about the author with your submission.
