Registration Link

The congress will be held at the Museu de Marinha and is organised by the Museu do Ar in cooperation with the Museu de Marinha and the Museu Militar de Lisboa.

Main Venue: Museu de Marinha – Maritime Museum
Address: Praça do Império, Santa Maria de Belém, 1400-206 Lisboa

Location

Under the theme “Museums as Agents of Reconciliation & Social Cohesion,” the congress will explore how museums and heritage institutions can contribute to public dialogue, mutual understanding and the responsible interpretation of histories of conflict. Arms, armour and military history collections preserve objects associated with identity, memory, trauma and contested historical narratives. By presenting multiple perspectives and connecting collections with human experiences, museums can create spaces for critical reflection, professional exchange and meaningful dialogue.

The two-day congress programme on 2 and 3 November 2026 will include presentations, panel discussions, workshops, guided museum visits, a keynote address and the ICOM Arms & Military General Assembly. Participants may register either for the congress only or for the combined congress and study visit, which will take place from 4 to 6 November 2026 and will include visits to Almeida, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and Porto.

Please find below detailed information on registration fees, deadlines, the congress and study visit programmes, transport arrangements and payment procedures.
